The architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (1880-1960) designed some of Britain's finest and most famous twentieth century buildings; from Battersea and Bankside Power Stations to the G.P.O. red telephone box. Having won the competition of the new Anglican cathedral in Liverpool at the age of 22, he designed a number of beautiful churches - not least the Roman Catholic church of St Alphege in Bath. The architectural historian Gavin Stamp explains Scott’s achievement.
